I started my Mary Kay business like so many others, NERVOUS yet EXCITED!  I became a Beauty Consultant August 2001 as a Newlywed.  We were both going to college had no money, no credit, and I thought no time.  I new when we decided to have children I wanted to raise them.  I originally had thought about coming an OB/GYN doctor or psychologist, but knew their hours werent the best for that.  Mary Kay came into my life at a "Perfect" time but not the "Perfect" time.  Thinking maybe it would be better to do it when I was older or when I had had kids.  But I fell in love with the products and thought if I am not good at it atleast I can get my products at a discount.  I LOVE THAT :)

 

I had a friend that I worked with invite me to hear more about the business later that week.  I was so curious as we worked I asked more questions and really was so intrigued by the time I went to hear more I decided why not try.  I would rather know whether it was right for me than to always wonder "What if?"  So I decided to jump in and give it a try. 

 

I had heard there were more women earning over $100k/year in Mary Kay than in any other company in America and I met several who claimed to make $10k a month, $20k a month, $60k a month and that gave me hope. I got super excited thinking about what could be.  I thought, if I could put 40 hours a week into my Mary Kay business, look at where it could take me!  You see, I knew that the worlds most successful people become wealthy one of three ways:

Owning a home based business.

Owning a small business.

Owning real estate.

 

I knew that wealthy folks DO NOT work a 9-5 for someone else making someone else rich and if I stayed on the path I was on, thats what I would be dong for the rest of my life!  Now don't get me wrong, 40 hours a week jobs are great, my husband is in one, but it just wasn't for me.  I wanted more for my family.  

 

So I decided I wanted to run it like a business decided to get products on hand to sell.  I of course as a young newlywed didn't have any money or credit to my name but had a car that I decided to put it with a loan as collateral and I was officially a home based business with Mary Kay Cosmetics.  I joined nervous, scared, not knowing what I was going to do, short on time and knowing only broke college students. But, I joined with a dream and hope.  A dream that I could change my life and ultimately impact the lives of others and the hope that more was out there.  

 

There was a another HUGE Problem!  I didn't know a thing about makeup or skincare and I didn't know ANYONE I could sell to. But, after joining Mary Kay, I found out that they teach you everything you need to know!  And anyone that is teachable and coachable can also learn the simple steps to be a success.  

 

​I started my business  very part time not doing much for the first couple years, because I got pregnant and very sick with all my pregnancies.  I gained a couple clients along the way as a more hobby consultant for four years.  Once I decided I was tired of being mediocre and working consistenly I earned my first car and became a director.  That was exciting!  It did take guts to get started because I had 5 HUGE PROBLEMS!

 

1.  I didn't know anyone to sell to!

2.  I was sooo busy with job and hubby did not have a lot of time!

3.  I had no idea how to apply makeup!

4.  What would people think?

5.  I was NOT the sales type!

 

Well, here is what happened!  

 

I was terrified that I had NO time!  After talking with my recruiter and Sales Director Shari Kendall, she helped me realize that all I needed was 3-4 hours tops to add an extra $100 to my income.  Once I had my first few parties, I was hooked!  So, even though I was SO busy, she helped me fit Mary Kay into my schedule! 

 

I didn't know ANYONE I could sell to. But, after joining Mary Kay, I found out that they teach you everything you need to know!  And anyone that is teachable and coachable can also learn the simple steps to be a success.  So, I started with one woman at my husband's work that said she would do a party with me.  So I started not knowing anything but I learned as I went (one of my favorite things about the business)

 

What would people think?  This was HUGE for me.  I had got a degree in Psychology, and now I am going to sell lipstick?  I even had a hard time.  But then I thought, those that matter don't judge, and those that don't matter, judge!  And, for goodness sakes, I new Mary Kay was working because of the money I was making, and I knew that Moronae and I were happy and thats really all that mattered!  So, I dropped the judgement!  ;-)

 

I had no idea how to apply make-up!  Well, this was easy!  I can be taught anything.  

 

I was not the sales type!  Well, what Shari said was.  As long as you Love the product and you share it with other women YOU can make GREAT Money in MK.  My exact thought was "Heck yea I can share!"  So that fear was out the window.  

 

At that point, nothing held me back!  I was beyond excited!  ;-)

 

So, where have I been since I started?  I earned my first free car 4 months after I made the decision that I wanted a car and we are earning our fourth now.  I have LOVED my journey in MK worked full time 15-20 hrs. and dropped down to part time 5-10 hrs. to fit my life, my wants, and mine and my family schedules. October of 2016 I decided I was done being mediocre and earned my 2nd free car in MK in 3 short months and I entered the top 2% of Mary Kay Cosmetics and became a Mary Kay Sales Director.  I now live the life I always dreamed of!  I work for an incredible company, have ALL the flexibility in the world, can travel anywhere, make great money, work with incredible women, and I mean incredible!  And the best part, I literally P-A-R-T-Y for a living!  

 

I know that when you make the decision to give this a try, you won't look back.  Whether it's money you gain, more confidence, more friends, a free car....your life will improve for the better!  I look forward to meeting you when you join the Aviator team!  ;-)
